Autumn Brings Colorful Activities to Kalispell
Autumn in Kalispell is a celebration of the changing seasons…a last chance to get outdoors before the snow begins to pile up and a wonderful time to bask in the vibrant culture at the center of the Flathead Valley. Below is a roundup of a sampling of events held under the golden quaking aspens as the mercury creeps south.
September 2018: Montana Dragon Boat Festival
The largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, Flathead Lake, will again host the now-annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival in September 2018. Teams of 20 paddlers will propel these traditional Chinese-style longboats across the shimmering glacial waters of Flathead Lake. Don’t miss the food, vendors and 50-plus teams participating in this unique event! Although the 2017 festival had to be cancelled due to unsafe air conditions caused by active wildfires, plans are underway for 2018.
Oct. 1, 2017: Pink me up! 1K / 5K color runs
Flathead Valley’s fourth annual 1K / 5K color celebration, Pink Me Up! is a nontimed event. It’s all about having fun with your friends and family members to celebrate and honor the lives of loved ones who have experienced cancer and bring awareness about cancer to the valley. Start and finish at Flathead Valley Community College.
Sept. 16 – Oct. 31, 2017: Sweet Pickin’s Pumpkin Patch
This family-owned patch is covered with a variety of pumpkin- and farm-related activities for kids of all ages. And, pumpkins to pick.
The vibrant city of Kalispell is the gateway to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, Whitefish and all of the recreation, art, shopping and adventure that northwestern Montana has to offer. Plopped in the center of the Flathead Valley, it’s an easy drive to the park entrance, the art galleries of Bigfork or the water sports mecca of Flathead Lake…and well-equipped with affordable, comfortable lodging, great dining and a range of shopping from one-off boutiques to price-conscious large-format retailers.
